Increasing the participation of women in the labour market would play a vital role in increasing countries' productivity, leading to greater economic diversification, innovation and poverty reduction. Trade is inherently intertwined with driving this economic growth by supporting women's empowerment and advancing gender equality.

As the World Trade Organization has highlighted, in view of the complexity of the relationship between trade and gender, it is important to assess the potential impact that trade policies have on both women and men, and to develop appropriate policies to ensure that trade contributes to enhancing opportunities for all.

In this regard, and within the framework of the celebration of International Women Day, the Embassies of Ecuador and Uruguay, together with the Australia-Latin America Business Council (ALABC) will be bringing together several important voices in this domain to discuss about the initiative "She Trades."

The "She Trades" initiative, developed by the International Trade Centre form World Trade Organization, has become a fundamental tool that allows the promotion of a women-inclusive business ecosystem, with a global, multi-pronged and multi-stakeholder approach.

The initiative is an immense strategy that covers a networking platform with 25 participant countries, and tools that allow for the evaluation and monitoring of public policies linked to gender and trade.

Within this initiative, Australian and Uruguay have become renowned champions of the "She Trades" networking platform.  Ecuador is also looking forward to collaborating with partner countries to pursue gender equality within trade, having just joined the "She Trades Outlook". The outlook is the first tool of its kind to make trade possible for women by promoting a more inclusive policy ecosystem. It provides comprehensive data and analysis on trade and women's economic empowerment, and shares experiences from around the world.

"She Trades" includes the participation of public entities, institutions and the private sector, enabling an invaluable multisector and multigeneration approach.

Why does this matter?

  • "She Trades" is a global initiative that encompasses women and trade
  • How does Australia, Ecuador and Uruguay interact in this platform?
  • How is it possible to achieve gender equality within trade through an initiative of these characteristics?
  • how is the private sector included in "She Trades"?
  • Lessons learned by 3 different countries.
  • What are the possibilities to join the initiative and platform and how does it make a difference?

The webinar will be held at the following times:
Australia - 8.30am AEDT - March 30th, 2022
Ecuador - 4.30pm - March 29th, 2022
Uruguay - 6.30pm - March 29th, 2022
